THE 90:10 IMBALANCE

Ninety per cent (90%) of HIV-infected people live in developing countries, but only 10% of global resources are available to them. Ten per cent (10%) of HIV-infected people live in the developed world, where 90% of all health care resources and research funds are spent.

OUR VISION

We envisage a turning point in the generation of information and its proper use in planning, evaluation and implementation of anti-HIV/AIDS policies. These policies are geared to offer relevant and meaningful solutions to the problems of effective control and reduction of HIV/AIDS prevalence by integrating , as part of our approach, a community-based and community-sensitive solution.

OUR MISSION

  • To refocus on and provide an approach to the HIV/AIDS problem that is uniquely Afrocentric.

  • To monitor, foster and promote positive ideas, concepts and programmes consistent with successful development models in Africa.

  • To explore whether the existing approaches are effective in view of the cultural and philosophical differences espoused in Kenya and to promote an understanding of the African perspective.

  • To establish a surveillance system on HIV/AIDA and associated behaviour patterns.

Our Resources

We have a wide spectrum of highly qualified experts and community leaders. They include internationally respected and recognized academicians, analysts, researchers and field operatives. We also have strong affiliations and credible connections with international organizations involved in research into HIV/AIDS. Everyone in KAWI is commited to the fight against HIV/AIDS.
