KAWI and the Media

KAWI has been training the media on various aspects of HIV and AIDS and has held several training sessions at its premises last year. 

Purpose The purpose of the training sessions was to encourage journalists to report accurately and informatively on HIV and AIDS issues.

Speaking during one of the workshop sessions, Dr Anzala told journalists to inform the communities especially the youth against early and unprotected sex as about 80 percent of all HIV/AIDS cases recorded were contracted through sex. 

Prof Thairu added that it was possible to limit the spread of HIV/AIDS and mitigate its impact by promoting prevention, access to antiretroviral treatment and providing care and increasing support activities in various communities.

During the workshop sessions, medical experts on HIV/AIDS including Dr. Sobbie Mulindi, Dr Omu Anzala, Prof Kihumbu Thairu, Dr Solomon Monyenye, Dr Anne Pertet among others, educated the participants on the diagnosis and management of HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis and strategies for HIV/AIDS prevention and control. 

They also spoke on the causes, symptoms, social and economic effects and dwelt on how community members especial the youths being future leaders can avoid the disease.
